VINTAGE LIGHTS & PERIOD LIGHTING  / Gaslight Era Lighting

The evocative lighting of the mid- and late-Victorian era used piped gas for illumination from artistic fixtures. (In reproductions, the lights are almost always electrified, but the gaslight style remains.)Fixtures that would have had a gas flame have shades that open up rather than down. Gasoliers are chandeliers that burned gas. Victorian sconces are also called wall brackets. Look here, too, for fancy fittings and shades.
