TRADITIONAL FLOORING  / Resilient

Linoleum, cork, vinyl, rubber, and composite flooring products.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking that resilient flooring is non-historical. Linoleum—the real stuff, made of cork and linseed oil—dates to the 1860s. Resilient, nonabsorbent, long-wearing flooring materials have the ability to “bounce back” from spills and abrasions. An amalgam of ground cork and linseed oil., true linoleum is a great medium for inlaid or laser-cut or bordered floor patterns, and includes solid matter colors, marble look flooring, and striated Jaspe patterns.

Although today’s rubber is sold in sheets and tiles primarily to the commercial trade, it too lends itself to inlaid patterns and designs. Cork is a luxurious, easy-on-the feet flooring material, perfect for a Mid-century Modern house. Vinyl, ubiquitous since the 1950s, is an extremely versatile medium. Patterns resemble everything from historic linoleum patterns to marble.
